OccuMind Awarded £52,000 Heritage Fund to Preserve Nigerian Music Heritage

The project will explore the musical traditions, stories and experiences that connect Nigerian communities in Essex with their cultural heritage. The project will bring together community members and heritage practitioners to record oral histories, document musical knowledge and explore traditions through creative workshops.

The project will also create digital resources that help preserve this knowledge at the Essex Record Office (ERO) and make it accessible to wider audiences, supporting greater understanding and intergenerational sharing of Nigerian musical heritage.

We’re proud to be taking this important step towards preserving and sharing Nigerian musical heritage in Essex and thank The National Lottery Heritage Fund for putting their trust in us to execute a project we are extremely passionate about.
